An unforgettable ride into the heart of the Cévennes National Park through the Aigoual Forest.

A ride of contrasts between the vast, arid limestone tablelands
carved out by the 3 fabulous canyons of the
Tarn, Jonte and Dourbie rivers.

Chevauchées dans les Cévennes

An invitation to journey through stunning and untamed scenery, where the causse limestone tablelands give way to deep valleys, and stark scrubland sets a startling contrast with the beech, oak and chestnut forests.

The trek is punctuated by stopovers in rugged, unfathomable villages that tell a story of turmoil in these lands – old Templar cities, Huguenot fiefs, and famous battlegrounds of the Camisards.

We will meet with local people wholeheartedly attached to their rough but generous land.

Day after day – what you can expect

Day 1 - Reception in the late afternoon at the Le Caussanel farm, in Sauclières. You will be shown the horses and given a description of the ride. Welcoming drink and farm meal.

Day 2 – We cross the Larzac plateau and reach the Templar city of La Couvertoirade where history mixes pleasantly with present-day craftmanship. After a picnic, we ride on to the valley of the Dourbie River. Night at the Camarat farm, close to Nant.

Day 3 – We will climb up the Roc Nantais, to the Causse Bégon and on to the Pierre Plantée pass where we stop to picnic. Then down into the Trévezel valley until we reach Aiguebonne. Meal and night at the hostel.

Day 4 – On our way up the Aigoual massif, we shall be following the legendary trail of the Florac 100-mile endurance ride. We will ride into the Foux arboretum before stopping to picnic at the Roquedols Castle which houses the Cévennes National Park’s Nature Centre. We then go on to the town of Meyrueis. The lookout site for the vultures can be visited.

Cévennes, ses grands espaces
