Cévennes... Grandeur Nature
The "outdoor" option
7 days - 7 nights - 6 days on horseback
An unforgettable ride into the heart of the
Cévennes
National Park through the Aigoual Forest. |

This is full immersion
in the Cévennes Mountains that have been shaped by the flow
of water since the beginning of time.
Over time, close bonds have been created between nature and man in
this land of causses and gorges, gradually modelling exceptional landscapes.
This is a very special opportunity to discover these lands of contrast,
from the light-bathed plateaux offering steppe-like landscapes dotted
with secretive villages to the thick forests alive with all manner
of plants and creatures that we will see as we make our way over the
trail...

Day after day – what
you can expect
• Day
1 – Reception in the late afternoon
at the Le Caussanel farm, in Sauclières. You will be
shown the horses. Welcoming drink, farm meal and tent accommodation.
• Day
2 - We depart from Sauclières,
we ride to the Pic de Saint Guiral.
We shall follow the ridge trail to Mas
Bresson, the hostel where we will be camping that night.
• Day
3 – We shall picnic at the Pises lake
in the heart of the Aigoual state forest (the heartiest among
us can take a quick dip), and then continue along delightful trails
to the
Espérou camping site at the foot of the Mont Aigoual.
• Day
4 –Our ride continues forward to
the Mont Aigoual Observatory designed like a fortress to withstand
the wind and the cold (optional visit, no additional charge). We
go on to set up camp at La Béssède, in the heart of
the Aigoual forest.
• Day
5 – We shall ride by Cabrillac and
through the Crouzet forest before arriving in the town of Meyrueis,
where the Causse Noir, the Causse Méjean and the Aigoual massif
come together. Signs of an eventful past are to be found at every turn.
Night at a camp-site.
• Day
6 : After crossing Meyrueis, we can visit the
Roquedols Castle which houses the Cévennes National
Park’s Nature Centre. We shall then ride onwards
to the Causse Noir to Aiguebonne where we shall
be camping that night.
• Day
7 : Perhaps, as we take
a path that dominates the Gorges du Trévezel
canyon, we will be lucky enough to sight a few vultures,
three species of which (griffon, monk and Egyptian
vultures) have been reintroduced since 1981. In 2002,
the colony comprised more than 350 individuals. Our
odyssey comes to an end after a long ride to the horse
farm at Sauclières where we shall be camping.
